A strange building, a strange voice, strange surroundings in a strange setup. It is just you in your wheelchair finding a way out. Apparently the fifth room is your exit, or at least so the mysterious telephone voice tells you. A puzzle adventure for MSX1.
The French based MO5.com association promotes the preservation of videogame heritage, including the MSX system’s games. To achieve this, MO5.com has been campaigning since 2003 for the creation of a national museum, supported by the government and industry professionals, to reflect the common policies of all the representatives of the digital and video game industries in France. The game Room 5 was created live for educational purposes by MO5.com, and ended up here at MSXdev.
Still dizzy from last night, you somehow got yourself stuck in a room with only a strange voice on the telephone instructing you to get to Room nr. 5. Whatever that means, you’ll explore the room and find a way to exit…. only to find yourself in another room. Each room is a world of its own, but with a whole lot of secrets. Occasionally, you’ll come across items that can help you with your progress. Does Room 5 even exist you’ll ask yourself while desperately looking for the exit.
A game full of surprises and secrets, presented in a mesmerizing monochromatic like layout that will not distract you from finding that room. Just you and your wheelchair, and a bit of luck. With a password system and the option to upload high scores to the MSX leader board, Room 5 is sure to keep you engaged for an extended period.

Your only defence is the ability to electrify the wires which kills the Sparx on them.
Sparx was originally a Sinclair BASIC type in game published in Sinclair User back in 1984, written by Jonathan Currey. I have taken this old code ported it over to ZXBASIC, spruced up the visuals and introduced different difficulty levels and joystick controls.

One needs to be brave to make a game inspired by “A Brave New World”, one of the top 3 dystopian stories ever written, and the author of this game boldly goes there, to bring us this great entry. The game is not by the events of the book, but by the society it pictures. In this great world everyone has a role and they are conditioned from birth to be good at it, and even more importantly, happy in there.
In the game A Great New World you are in charge of keeping this “perfect” society running. For that you need to make sure the right amount of citizens of each type are bred and “prepared” (a.k.a. conditioned) to perform their role in society across a series of minigames that are much deeper than they look on the surface.
Each turn, natural disasters will reduce your population, so you need to create new embryos, sort them along the roles (be mindful that you need to have people of all types, or the society will be unbalanced and collapse), and then, of course, you need to condition them to be their very best and their role, and to be perfectly happy in their place in society.
Title: Beep
In Beep you control a robot that needs to collect some components while avoiding the robot that guards them.
Too simple? Ok, fine, we didn’t tell you everything… the mechanics forgot to put brakes in your robot, so it will go ahead until it hits a wall, or maybe the floor is ice. Whatever the reason, you have to rely on careful planning to get through each stage.
Behind its deceptively simple monochrome UI lays a smooth puzzle game that will give you several layers of challenge. From the start you choose your level of difficulty beginning with “Explorer” mode. Go explore, slide, smash yourself against walls, collect the missing components, avoid the security droid and don’t forget to BEEP along the way.
You think Explorer mode is too easy for you? Don’t worry, BEEP also has a “Time Challenge” mode, on which you have a time limit to complete each stage. Still too easy? Well, try the “Time Challenge +” mode with even LESS time to complete each level. And this one is really tight. Perhaps it should be called “Time Challenge -” then, right?
