This is a classic tale of entrapment, filthy rats, scattered items, and breakable walls, all presented through a text screen. Escape the room, or succumb to rat-induced infections.
What happened to Conalma1, we wonder. MSX developer Freenit certainly has a knack for creating challenging games using nothing but text and a few buttons. We’ve seen similar creativity in his recent entry, Saal, a space adventure extravaganza built on the same foundation. In Conalma2, the focus shifts to escaping rooms, with your protagonist taking on the role of a rat chaser. Could this be a fresh spin on the tale of The Pied Piper of Hamelin?
The game involves navigating rooms with specific rules and tools. Some rooms are unsolvable, and you must guide a rat to help open doors. Entering a room without keys traps you inside. The rat can destroy the exit, and you need a dagger to fight it – but defeating the rat causes you to lose the dagger. A hammer can be used to break walls. Cryptic? Absolutely! We did mention that Freenit creates challenging games.
