Classic Spectrum games, re-imagined for the ZX Spectrum Next - without sharing a single byte of the original.
The idea
Colour clash is part of the Spectrum's charm: we love it in its own way. But the Next can do more, and many classic games have rich, colourful graphics that the attribute grid never let shine. These patches show what such a game looks like when its figures become Next hardware sprites and its scenery stays crisp.
The original game is never changed and never distributed. Each patch is a small web page: you open it, choose your own copy of the original snapshot, and press a button. Your browser builds the .nex file on the spot. The page holds only the changes, encrypted with a key taken from the original file itself, so without the game the patch is just noise. Nothing is uploaded anywhere; it all happens in your browser and works offline.
