A full-blooded tennis game for the Amiga 1200, in 256 colours.
Step onto the court behind the baseline and play tennis the way the 16-bit classics promised: fast rallies, big serves, desperate lobs and an umpire who sees everything, except when he doesn't. Ace of Matchball is a new AGA game from Fliegeralarm Games, written for a stock A1200 with a hard drive and 2 MB of Fast RAM.
Features
- Singles and mixed doubles. Eight players with their own strengths in speed, power, serve and net play. In mixed doubles you pick any pair; your partner is played by the computer or by a friend on the second joystick.
- Friendly match, tournament or world tour. Four venues (City hard court, Riviera clay, Parkside grass and the indoor Arena), ranking points and a world ranking that is saved between sessions.
- Real tennis rules. Sets, tiebreaks, change of ends with a break on the bench, the doubles alleys and serving order.
- Timing and touch. Hold fire to charge a drive, meet the ball early, late or perfectly, lob over the net player, drop it short or smash the high ball away.
- Stamina. Long rallies wear players out: they get slower and their shots less accurate.
- Challenge the call. Close balls can be called wrongly by the line judges. Challenge them and watch the review with the ball mark on the line.
- Replays. Aces, net cords, long rallies and set points are shown again, with the key moment slowed down and zoomed in.
- A living stadium. Animated crowd and ball kids, three line judges who signal out balls, an umpire who follows the ball, a digital scoreboard and wind at the open-air venues.
- Personality. Players celebrate, sulk, curse in their own voices, and the hotheads may throw their racket or their water bottle.
- Speech and sound. The umpire calls the score, and the crowd murmurs, gasps and cheers.
- English, German and French, with km/h or mph for serve speeds.
