The Pit -C64-

The Pit is a classic coin-op arcade video game released in 1982.
The game begins with a saucer landing at the top of the screen. The player controls an astronaut-explorer who must dig tunnels, collect jewels and buried treasure, and return to the saucer before a tank known as the Zonker shoots through the mountain.

Underground, the player faces multiple hazards: falling rocks, hostile robots, pikes, acid pools, and collapsing environments. Enemy robots can be defeated by crushing them with boulders or using arrows. At the bottom of the maze lies a special jewel room containing multiple crystals; entering it triggers falling spikes from the ceiling, increasing the risk with every additional jewel collected.

After gathering the treasure (or at least one big diamond from the jewel room), the only way back is through The Pit: a chamber with a retracting platform suspended over a monster. Once stepped on, the platform begins to slide away, forcing the player to cross quickly or fall and be devoured.

Scoring rewards skill and risk-taking: enemies are worth 200 points, crystals 1000 points each, buried treasure 2000 points, and safely crossing The Pit and reboarding the ship earns an additional 1000 points. Collecting multiple diamonds awards significant bonus points.

The game is available in .d64 and .d81 formats with 16K support, as well as a .prg version for 64K systems.

Finding it too difficult? The legendary Sleepwalkers has also provided the proper trainers :).

Have fun - and post your high score!
