MSXdev24 #22 Robo Race

Title: Robo Race

Genre: Boardgame adapation
Author(s): Maximilian Wöhrl
Medium: ROM 45KB
Hardware requirements: MSX1, 64KB

The 22nd entry of this year brings us the chance of programming robots to compete in a race against other 2 players to be the first to reach the checkpoints. It is an adaptation of a popular board game.

That’s right, you will pre-program your turn, and then let all robots act. Programming a robot is difficult, but not too hard. However unleashing it on an arena with other robots trying to guess how they will interact with it… that is a completely different story.

Each turn you pick the cards that would be your robot “program” for the turn, without knowing what the other players would do. Then all robots execute their program, one instruction at a time, in parallel, which usually leads to your robot colliding and basically not getting where you wanted to.

Did we mention the lasers? The robots have lasers too.

The game will play the turns out for you, so you don’t need to worry about following the rules too much, and it even provides AI players to let you play on your own.
